The artist sold this print to benefit earthquake relief in Mexico City, specifically the Brigada de Rescate Topos Tlatelolco.

From his Instagram post:

I'm selling this print edition to raise funds for search and rescue efforts in the wake of the earthquake in Mexico on Tuesday, which has killed over 230 people so far and destroyed or caused severe structural damage to thousands of buildings. I'm as broke as anyone but hopefully together we can make a greater impact. Asking $10, shipping not included, but you are certainly welcome to donate more. All proceeds will go to Brigada de Rescate Topos Tlatelolco, a volunteer search and rescue organization formed to fill the void left by the Mexican government's inept response to the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City, which killed thousands. More info at www.topos.mx.

Purchase of a print will in no way be interpreted as a statement of approval for the artwork, and you are welcome to throw the print away if you so choose - but donate. Simply send me a copy of your donation receipt (you can PayPal donations to [email protected]) and I'll put a print aside for you. I would prefer not to handle your money but will do so if you have trouble donating otherwise.

A note to my fellow gringos: Mexico is your next door neighbor. It's closer than whatever European country you might think your ancestors come from. And our cultures and fates are intertwined.

Luc Sante wrote that the past can be glimpsed through the present "as if through a smeared window." On September 19, 1985 an 8.1-magnitude earthquake hit Mexico City, killing at least 5000 people and causing at least $3 billion worth of damage to the city. Exactly 32 years later to the day, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck central Mexico. Rescue and relief operations are underway, but there is a long and painful road ahead.
