"Blue Botanicals" is a series of 30" x 22" one-of-a-kind linoleum block prints made with plant stencils and indigo ink on Rives BFK buff paper. In this series, I investigate how history, memory, and environment affect who I am in the world.

I lived my entire life less than one mile from a major body of water. I now live in the arid Northern New Mexico desert.

The Blue Botanicals series intertwines my deep connection to water with my present experience of living in extreme drought. The rich indigo ink symbolizing water gets slowly lifted away by a botanic stencil. The stencil is purslane picked from my land and laser-cut into paper; each print represents a solace between the cracks in my history and memory.

Each unique print has a moving arrangement of plants that will eventually overpower and remove most traces of the blue water. This process, in turn, grounds me solidly in the high desert landscape.
