ARTIST STATEMENT:
I was inspired by the sinuous patterns created by magnetic fields on the moon's surface. I chose a silvery grey color scheme and painted a pattern on a glossy mercerized cotton warp to reflect the woven pattern in the structure of the fabric. Since beginning my practice of making art on a floor loom, I have been drawn to the connection between the concepts of the repetitive cycles of natural systems, like those of the moon, and the inherent repetition found in producing textiles on the loom.
TECHNIQUE:
8-harness weave structure with painted warp and 3 subtle, striping shade shifts of hand-dyed weft.
MATERIALS:
Cotton warp and cotton rayon blend weft.
