The subject matter of this original watercolor is a brilliant sun set (or sunrise) over the ice breaking up on lake Superior. Looking closely in the the blocks of ice you can find images of the cold weather dependent trees, flower, insects, fish, birds, and animals that Wisconsin will lose as the climate warms.

The painting toured in the exhibition "Paradise Lost? Climate Change in the North Woods" in 2008-2009. The exhibition resulted from an artist/scientist collaborative effort to bring attention to the science of climate change through the arts.
