Romantic Rose's still-life in muted romantic colors is very painterly. For this painting, I focused on the composition of the still-life creating a circle arch for the eye to stay engaged in the painting. You enter the painting through the lying roses on the table and move up the vase through the stems and onto the bouquet then up to the top rose whose leaf points the eye back and around. This is done intentionally to create a rhythm flow to the painting. This was painted from life in my studio. The bottom table rose is starting to fade as gravity is pushing it down flattening it into the table. This is painted in soft pastel with an impressionistic mark-making feel. I studied the layout and lighting for this painting creating a Notan before beginning.
