Why is a paralympian a hero? Because they inspire others with their incredible resilience, remarkable strength and their determination. Their achievements in sports, when they have faced significant challenges because of their physical limitations has an effect on others. They serve at the top of what the world sees as role models. They demonstrate that a disability does not limit what can be achieved. They prove that anyone has the power to overcome challenges.
My son, was born with mild cerebral palsy, and doctors informed us he would be limited to a wheelchair. He found delight in hard work and perseverance early on; earning his ability to walk by age four, defying the given odds. To quote Ryan, 2 silver medalists, Paris 2024…. “Understanding my disability has made it easier to have hard days. We push further because we have a disability, but that doesn’t stop us. Use your disability as your superpower”.
They deconstruct the world’s idea that they are limited or incapable because of their disabilities. They do this with dedication, hardwork and a smile on their face! They are the ultimate people for inspiring others, by proving and promoting understanding towards people with disabilities. Their influence helps others to have the courage to overcome their own challenges and pursue their own dreams!
