I don't identify as American Indian although I do have Shawnee blood. I featured Blue Jacket of the Shawnee Tribe to represent my actual heritage, my version of a Fritz Scholder piece to represent my more recent reality and a landscape to show my appreciation for the wide open spaces where my ancestors lived.
The viewers in the space represent my family and the distance that grows from our Indian heritage. My grandmother whose life started on a reservation is represented as my recurring character, Dot with braids and feathered dots.
