At the heart of this vivid Chamba-style painting, two princely figures engage in a poised exchange, seated on an embroidered carpet. One reclines in a white jama with floral butis, drawing from a hookah—a shared symbol of intimacy and status. The other prince sits with respectful ease, while an attendant behind fans the air with quiet ceremony. Set against a bold yellow ground and framed in red, the composition distills courtly elegance and ritual. An inscription in Takri script adorns the upper border, and the composition draws inspiration from a folio referenced in W. G. Archer’s Visions of Courtly India (pp. 20–21).
