With its gossamer-thin form and radiant embellishment, this saucer shimmers with the quiet luxury of the Mughal court. Free-blown and tooled on the pontil, it is crafted from fine glass into a circular shape with a gently raised rim, bordered in luminous gold. At its center blooms a graceful composition of gold-rendered floral and vegetal motifs. A band of stylized golden scallops encircles the rim, adding a rhythmic flourish to its decorative scheme. A similar piece is housed in the National Museum, New Delhi (59.324/2). Another closely related example is published in Mughal Glass, p. 246, further illustrating the sophistication and artistry of Mughal-period glassware.
