Born to Dutch dairy farmers in LA, lived life cross-culturally, especially in Africa , now pursuing my first love, making art.
MessageI love being a mom! It was not always so. Growing up, I found kids to be a pain and bother. Then I got pregnant and everything changed. Our first baby was born in Wales, in an old pub we were living in, with a Welsh midwife who showed up in the night, and by morning I was holding a beautiful baby in my arms.
I was trying to describe that first holding, first viewing to friends having their first. I couldn’t find words adequate: breath-taking? awe-some? a miracle? Nothing can you prepare you for the experience.
Babies swaddle and cuddle, they gurgle and smell 'newborn’. They seem other-worldly for a good while.
I’m savoring those awe-some moments of my kids’ births long ago. The beginning of a long adventure called ‘family’.
