As a jeweler, part of my job was to order and check in diamonds and gemstones. Melee is a term for tiiiny little diamonds and they would come packaged in a folded piece of paper. Ever so slowly, I would have to unfold that paper so those little suckers wouldn’t pop out and spill everywhere. Once I managed to finally open it, I had to delicately pour them into a small black disc about the size of a quarter to weigh them – all the while holding my breath so I didn’t disturb the scale or make any of the diamonds jump out. This was always a test of patience.
