Makiki Valley 26-40. Makiki valley trail, Kanealole trail, Maunalaha trail
After returning from traveling to the mainland, I really wanted to have a day where we were just in nature, no "have-to" plans, and less driving. It was such a wonderful day exploring with Mark through the Makiki Valley. I really appreciate how patient he is when I stop every few steps to either take a photo and how he plays along with it all and points out interesting things. This piece has two elements that normally are not in my work - sewing of the trail map and drawing of animals - tadpoles. Subconsciously I think the tadpoles and frog eggs snuck into my work since when I was with my nephew in Ohio the week before all we did was talk about frogs, color frogs, and draw frogs. Made me smile big to add this little extra things, especially because on the trail they point out frogs in the river beds. The sewing of the trail map followed our footsteps and ironically it is in the shape of a heart. Truly was a loving day and a reminder that just a few hours can lead to an abundance of useful material.
