Stan Herd, a native Kansan, began as a painter and muralist before becoming a world-renowned "representational" earthworks artist. As a progressive activist, Herd has embraced this art form to bring attention to a multitude of issues. His work showcases the environment, science, sustainable agriculture, and the humanities, which all connect to a common theme regarding the ‘human condition’ in the world today. As a founding member of the Prairie Renaissance, Herd has been active in promoting film, music, and the arts in America’s heartland. His work has spanned over 40 years and includes earthworks from 4 different continents.
