“Outside has been in my life always. My preoccupations and provocations, my involvements and most personal concerns, and the focus of my paintings have all had their origins and substance in the world outside. I have, with attentive involvement, learned to work and see the seams in nature that are synonymous with my inner world.“ -Michael Nicholson.
Nicholson graduated from high school in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and received his associate of Arts degree from Cowley County Community College in Kansas. He studied design with William Harold Smith at the University of Oklahoma and attended Northwestern State University in Alva, where he studied perspective and its application to landscape motifs. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from Wichita State University in 1972.
Nicholson resided in Kansas for thirty years, working in the business sector with an interior design and architectural firm in Wichita, Kansas, and painting large-scale corporate murals in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado."
