Elizabeth "Grandma" Layton was a Kansas-born artist who first turned to art in her sixties, having attended drawing classes at Ottawa University. Layton's work was in high demand, but throughout her career, she never sold any pieces, they were only acquired through donations. Her work has been shown at the Smithsonian National Museum of National Art Museum and the Musée d'Art Brut & Art Singulier.
