The original illustration was a pen and ink drawing of a new species of Oenothera in the plant family Onagraceae. An herbarium specimen served as the only reference for the ink illustration, and it was published in Novon 14(1) in 2004 by Warren Wagner who named it for his wife Lucy Julian. Recently digital photographs were sent to Wagner showing the color variation in the flowers as they aged. I was asked to turn this into a color digital using the photos provided and this resulted in a new illustration for our Botanical Art Archives.
