Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly

The life cycle of a monarch butterfly begins with a tiny egg laid on the underside of a milkweed leaf. Upon hatching from the egg, as the caterpillar grows, it sheds its skin five times, with each phase referred to as an “instar,” before developing a chrysalis and emerging as a butterfly.
