One of the largest bumble bee species, Black and Gold (bombus auricomus) is very common by my home in the Great Lakes ecosystem. Finding and drawing this bombus auricomus (“with golden hair”) female body set me on a journey, paying homage to my love of quilting, by creating the bee and hive artwork. Her large body has wonderfully distinct black and yellow segments allowing me to experiment with various pattern making and sewing techniques.
