This agave was painted from a specimen in the Vitko Collection of more than 5,000 succulents at the International Peace Gardens, which straddle the North Dakota and Manitoba border, celebrating the longest undefended border in the world. I was particularly drawn to the 'bud imprints' - patterns on leaves from the imprint of spines along the edges before the leaves have fully unfurled.
