- Gouache on watercolor paper
- 14 x 14 in
- Anna Pedersen
These three plants are all rare and endemic to South Pacific islands. Sclerotheca raiateensis, also known as Tiare Apetahi, is found solely on Temehani Mount on Raiatea (upper left). Lebronnecia kokioides, the sole species in the genus is found on the islands of Mohotani and Tahuata in the Marqueses (upper right). It is extremely rare, and now cultivated in Hawaii. Lepinia taitensis is on the islands of Moorea and Tahiti in the Society Islands and is currently classified as critically endangered. It is distinguishable by its unique hanging fruiting carpel structure resembling a basket. Each of these species is dependent upon the health of these island ecosystems, something that is being threatened by the changing climate.
