This print was created as a test of etching techniques, and is based on an earlier illustration that I had created of a horseshoe crab (likely Limulus polyphemus.) I was captivated by the many undulations and nuances in the animal's carapace, and sought to better understand it by illustrating it.

The original illustration for this image was drawn from an exhibit specimen at the American Museum of Natural History. I spent several hours studying and rendering the specimen.
