The Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium of Tucson, AZ commissioned four illustrations of generalized insect mouthpart types for display in “The Wild World of Bugs” exhibit, which will be on display for several years. Each illustration highlights an evolutionary adaptation for different modes of feeding: chewing, piercing, sponging, and siphoning. These images were printed on large café tables in the “bug bistro” section of the exhibit, addressing how and what insects eat.
