Endangered seabirds
- Watercolor
- Claudia Román
As in so many other animal groups, lots of seabird species have disappeared over the last few decades. Factors that have influenced this catastrophe are accidental catching in fishing nets, the introduction of predatory species, changes in their habitat due to climate change, among others. The illustration collects extinct species such as the great auk (Pinguinus impennis), others such as the magenta petrel (Pterodroma magentae) and the waved albatross (Phoebastria irrorata) are in critical condition, and lastly the Audouin’s gull (Ichthyaetus audouinii) which is currently classified as vulnerable, but its population continues to decline.
