California Wildflowers in Orange
- Acrylic on watercolor paper
- Erin Hunter
This painting is the second in a series of six color-themed paintings of California wildflowers. While our state flower, the California poppy, is
fairly common, it turned out to be more challenging than I would have guessed to find other truly orange wildflowers. I bent my own rules a bit to include sticky monkeyflower and canyon live-forever, whose flowers are really more golden than orange, and included a pale swallowtail sipping from the flowers of a leopard lily.
