In this species of tropical frog, the incubation of the eggs occurs in a kind of pouch located on the back of the mother, from which comes the name of “marsupial frog”. This particularity is reminiscent of the gestation of mammals and the eggs and embryos of birds. This species belongs to the Hemiphractidae family, distributed in Central and South America with the greatest diversity in the Andean Mountain range.
