Unbranched stems up to 4 feet tall. Flowers are in elongated cylindrical heads as opposed to Tall or Canadian Goldenrod. Blooms late summer through fall, occurring in prairies and savannas throughout the tallgrass prairies. Less common south of Missouri and southern Illinois.
