The illustration was created for Dr. Bruce Schumacher with the US forest service who discovered the fossil of Rhinconichthys in an exposure of the Greenhorn Limestone Formation in the Comanche Grasslands of Colorado. The fossil is that of a filter-feeding Cretaceous fish and is approximately 92 million years old.
