An endangered island marble butterfly (Euchloe ausonides insulanus) rests on native Menzie's pepperweed (Lepidium virginicum var. menziesii), found along coastal lagoons in the Pacific Northwest. Other host species are nonnative field mustard and tumble mustard. This butterfly was thought to be extinct for ~90 yrs; recently it resurfaced in the San Juan Islands. Population restoration efforts are underway. Published in The Seattle Times: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/environment/will-this-rare-butterfly-only-found-on-san-juan-island-go-extinct/
