Often misunderstood birds, vultures play a vital role in the ecosystem as their scavenging prevents the spread of disease. They may not get as much public attention as eagles, falcons, and other birds of prey, but we'd certainly be much worse off without them.
While many vultures may have dark feathers, the Egyptian Vulture has snowy white plumage - one of the features that I find makes it a treat to illustrate.
C.J. Ellison is an artist and illustrator based outside of Chicago, IL.
Even from a young age, Ellison lived with a foot in the world of art and the world of science. Art was her medium of choice but the natural world and all it entails remained as captivating as it was inspiring. After working in commercial media and entertainment, including designing toys for Universal Studios 'Jurassic World', she returned to her true passion: bringing scientific awareness, knowledge, and inspiration through illustration.
Outside of her professional work, Ellison spends much time outdoors, volunteers for local conservation efforts, and plays the bagpipes.
