A young Earth being bombarded with multiple comets in a solar system which was hostile to life. The comets bring minerals and organic compounds, which are essential building blocks for the development of life. The exogenesis theory (also called panspermia) sugests that extraterrestrial life may have hitched a ride on such a comet or meteorite, rather than developing independently here on Earth.
