The intent is to evoke an emotional response to the human caused tragedy of biodiversity loss. The diagram is a phylogenetic tree illustrating the linage of sharks beginning 450 million years ago. The golden sharks are cut newspaper clippings documenting habitat destruction, overfishing and climate change that threatens to wipe out many species of sharks in the next 30 years. Shark populations have dropped by 71% over the past 50 years and 75% of know species are now threatened with extinction.

I have 40 years of professional illustration experience as a scientific illustrator. For my clients, I provide innovative communication of Scientific and Medical information, processes and concepts. Illustration work is delivered digitally. I am a Board Certified Medical Illustrator and a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, the Association of Medical Illustrators and the Illustrators Club of Washington.
