This illustration shows frogs that are presumed extinct from around the world. It was done for the National Geographic Magazine May 2001 feature, The Fragile World of Frogs. The frogs shown are Atelopus cruciger, Eleutherodactylus jasperi, Bufo
periglenes, Rheobatrachus silus, Litoria nyakalensis, Discoglossus nigriventer and Rana fisheri.
Rachel Ivanyi is a freelance illustrator who works on a variety of natural history subjects. Trained as a zoologist and scientific illustrator, she has long been drawn to the minute variations that separate one species from another and much of her work reflects this. Her style ranges from highly detailed scientific renderings to more whimsical illustration, in a variety of traditional and digital media.
