The Naga (cobra) rising above a lingham, a symbol of Shiva and maleness, which is on a yoni, the symbol for Shakti and the womb. These two images represent the merging of energies and forces, such as creation and regeneration, as well as masculine and feminine. The cobra references Shiva and the energy in kundalini. These symbols are common within Shaivism, one of the major traditions within Hinduism focused on Shiva.
