In each of the temples that Gudea built or rebuilt, he placed a cone such as this one inside the walls. A similar tradition continues in the foundation stone of modern construction. Many are of a similar shape and carry a similar inscription which reads: “Gudea built [or restored] this temple for Lord Ningirsu, his Lord.” (FLG)
