Tiny Eye of Horus (wadjet, wedjat, udjat), circa 500-300 BCE, Egypt. In Egyptian mythology, Horus loses his left eye during a fight with Seth over their father's (Osiris) throne. The goddess Hathor restores the eye. This act and the willingness of Horus to offer the eye in order to bring his father back to life becomes a symbol of healing, sacrifice, and protection. Gift of Mrs. ADR Lanier, 1955.
