Sepik River Ancestors (Kandimbong) are male and found in the Murik Lakes and lower Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea. They represent either clan founders or heroes from their past . The designs on the chest and shoulders are initiation marks. The shape of the head reflects a fashion seen in the early 20th century. After shaving the front of the head, a fiber cap was worn, allowing the hair to grow back through the cap.
