Goddess, Mesopotamia. This domestic plaque is thought to be a Babylonia image of Ishtar, the primary goddess of Mesopotamia. It was mass produced and made for private shrines. Her earliest known manifestation in this region was as Inanna, the Great Goddess of the Sumerians, who was about sex, love and regeneration. Transformed b y invading Semites, Inanna became Ishtar.
