A later impression of Rembrandt's Faust, circa 1652. The scene captures a magic disk entering his study. What the disk means has been a puzzle for scholars, as it does not follow alchemical forms. Within the circle are the letters "INRI," which is Latin, Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm, for Jesus of Nazarus, King of the Jews, the abbreviation often found on the title of the cross. In all ways, a meeting of two realms.
