This piece was purchased its connection with goddesses. It represents Jean Arp's abstract sculpture, titled, "Figure-Germe dite l'Apres-Midianette, 1959" (FLG, Spirit Matter 2, 48).

Hans Peter Wilhelm (Jean) Arp (1886-1966) bronze female torso statuette, with signature and edition information 10/30 at base of figure. He was a German-French sculptor, painter, and poet. His artistic orientation was Dadaist and abstract.

In 1972, the Metropolitan Museum of Art showcased Jean Arp's work. The exhibition was expanded and traveled as "Arp 1877–1966," first exhibited at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and then shown in seven museums in the United States and six in Australia.
