Aphrodite Genetrix
"This work, originally in the collection of Louis XIV, is one of the finest Roman copies of a Greek bronze statue created circa 400 BCE by the Athenian sculptor and jeweler Callimachus. In order to emphasize their divine ancestry, the Roman emperors referred to the Greek goddess Aphrodite as "genitrix" ("mother") and used her Latin name, Venus. "
