WE THE FUTURE
At the early age of six, indigenous climate activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez (his first name pronounced ‘Shoe-Tez-Caht’) began speaking around the world, from the Rio+20 United Nations Summit in Rio de Janeiro, to addressing the General Assembly at the United Nations in New York City. Now at the age of 18 years old, Xiuhtezcatl is a hip-hop artist and Youth Director of the Earth Guardians, whose mission is to help children reconnect with nature and kindle a desire to begin taking care of the Earth.
Xiuhtezcatl is a powerful voice on the front lines of a global youth-led environmental movement and is here to remind us that young people and students need to be involved not only because this is their future but they are here now and they hold power today

We The Future are young leaders at the forefront of change, and they’re building organizations and movements all across the country. They are are drafting and passing legislation. They are working on climate justice, criminal justice reform, voting rights, immigration rights, disability justice, gun reform, queer rights, and literacy, and they are changing the world. They carry the energy of countless communities and are providing clear paths to action and to healing.
In partnership with the artists Shepard Fairey, Rommy Torrico, Munk One, and Kate DeCiccio, this project will place art and supporting teaching tools representing these young leaders and their movements into more than 20,000 schools across the country, to inspire and engage the next generation.
