This is the companion piece to "What the Mystery Guest Left Behind" https://www.instagram.com/p/CMdt4G-lWGt/
and "ENOUGH!"

This and the two other small works were started at the same time using the same wood and fabric scraps. This one has more terry cloth than the others giving it a very exaggerated textural relief which I love.
The images here aren't representative but I was thinking of the Latin sugar skulls and of voodoo mysticism while I was painting. It’s not frightening or dark in its theme due to the looseness of the rendering and the bright colors. Overall, I think it is a playful piece.
I believe that little paintings are like gems. They require a different approach than large paintings where the scale alone can provide an aesthetic appeal. An image posted to social media doesn’t often convey the size of the piece. In this case I think the size works in its favor.
Many people do not realize that Salvador Dalí’s “The Persistence of Memory” (melting clock) painting is only 22.86cm x 33.02 cm (9” x 13”). Smaller works can be fun to make and when they work, they have a preciousness that large works usually don’t.
Can you find the safety pin?
