The Damage I Have Done

This painting was started in February 2021 alongside five other paintings, this one being the last to be completed. It's common for me to start numerous paintings at once and stew on them until inspiration strikes. In this case, the vision started with an abstract tree and progressed into seeing a woodpecker creating a hole in the tree. The brightness of all the colors and the business of all the previous paint splashing drove me to mute the background with the halo around the head of the bird. It gives the impression that the animal is aware of what it's doing.
