This is part of a series I created involving crushed cans that I found walking around as a thematic element. This is another early experimentation on what became my current style, painting on clothing fixed to a wooden canvas. I owned an Impala at the time. I feel that an Impala is a light-footed beautiful creature. My car wasn’t either of those. One is a splendid example of nature, and the other is a man-made vehicle that can put the other out of existence. I painted the treads of one of the tires and drove over this piece. Even though it wasn’t witnessed, it was still a performance piece. The cans had been run over by cars and now the painting of the crushed cans was run over as well. All together this makes for numerous layers of irony.
