Artist Statement
Collage has become a lost art form over the years. Romare Bearden brought it to light during the Harlem Renaissance and I’m bringing it back to light today. I want the world to understand that collage is not just cutting and pasting pictures on a page. Instead it's more like taking puzzle pieces that were never meant to fit together and forcing them to not only fit, but also to make an aesthetically pleasing image during the long tedious the process.and funded by Historic West End and the Knight Foundation, will be coming together in Mosaic Village on West Trade Street with the intention of infusing the space with new energy, color and purpose. It’s a response to gentrification in the area, using mural creation, community gardening, farmers’ markets and event space to reclaim a landmark area that had been abandoned for more than 10 years. Paint parties, held every first and third Friday, invite the community to come out and make ahands-on contribution to the cause.
