"In this painting, I placed the glistening forehead diagonally opposite the brass lamp base, loving their rhyming shapes, while the hands at the other diagonal created the primary drama. I loved the head, turned flatly to the side, away from the light. The cigarette was speaking to the pull chain." - Jim Cogswell
