Animalia: GRACE Artists and the Animal Kingdom - Digital Exhibition

Phyllis Putvain was a regular participant at the Greensboro Town Hall community workshop since 1981. She never had much time to draw or paint before then because she was raising her six children. Phyllis grew up with ten siblings on a tenant farm in Stowe, Vermont in the 1930's. Money was never in great supply. Times were tough, and yet in spite of hardships, she produced a continuous flow of beautiful paintings. "I've always wanted to be free, not tied down. When I was about twelve, all I could think of was a pretty house with curtains." Phyllis passed away suddenly in September, 1996 at the age of 60.
