We All Bleed the Same was created in November 2023, just after the October 7th attacks in Israel. The piece emerged from a place of frustration and deep reflection on the one-sided narrative dominating Western media at the time—a narrative that painted Hamas as the sole instigator and Israel as entirely without fault. It was as if the conflict had sprung from thin air in 2023, erasing nearly a century of complex and painful history. The intricate and explosive context was reduced to oversimplifications, ignoring the long-standing struggles over land, nationalism, safety, and the enduring tensions between religious freedom and persecution.
This work took shape as an immersive exhibition, designed to make people stop and reflect on the human cost of war. 'Opened', Skin tones became the colour palette in my abstract style, layered with a striking red line running through the centre—a visceral reminder that no matter who we are or where we come from, we all bleed red. The artwork closed, inspired by the concept of a book, was a collage of newspaper clippings on war, human rights, justice, and history, forcing viewers to confront the sanitized narratives they’re often fed.
Created at a time when the media had yet to adopt even a semblance of balance in its coverage, this piece serves as a stark reminder of how easy it is to overlook shared humanity in the face of political and ideological battles.
