Artist's Statement: "My practice is focused on material experimentation into the investigation of memory, time and nostalgia. Appropriating medical research on memory and the visual decay time leaves on structures and photographs inspires my process to experiment and to re-create these happenings in the present time. I use household materials and items that carry domestic themes, merging the conventional and digital photographic process. My work questions and confuses the authenticity of the image and its role as an object for remembering. My research into medical tests to gauge our abilities to remember have inspired the use of mazes and facial recognition tests. Through cutting, multiplying, and succumbing the photograph to intense manipulation, my practice attempts to convey the toll time takes on memory and the physical spaces we inhabit. Our memories can be confusing and often times hard to re-tell or re-call. I break down the photographic medium as a way to elicit the fading of a memory and to confuse the veracity of photography. My work attempts to visually construct what a memory is and could look like. Through my materials and techniques, I want my viewer to become lost in their own personal imagination of remembering. Forcing you to look close and analyze, but to also step back when needed to see images in their entirety. " -- Dan Hojnacki
