Proverbs 3:5-8
Not too long ago, I was in a theological conversation with a long-time friend. We stand firm on the truth and believe that the gospel has the power of salvation. However, he questioned the contrast between the Old Testament laws and the law of Christ.
Fast forward a couple of weeks when I listened to a sermon by RC Sproul. He spoke on the subject of evil. There was a point in his teaching when he commented, "I do not have an answer to the proposed question on the subject." He gave his answer to the importance of drawing from other theologians of history's past who did not have the answer either. He said, "Who am I to think I would have it figured out when they are so much more intelligent than me?" My conclusion is that the heart of the gospel is not that we know everything but that we believe. We realize God never intended for us in our humanness to "figure out" all of the answers. He asks that we seek Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. And we seek Him at all costs! Whether we are simple in our understanding or a theologian, don't worry about your knowledge but lean on the wisdom granted by God's very own spirit and remember that in all things, He works it out to His glory. In this, we give thanks! For what man has meant for evil, God has intended for good.
Proverbs 3:5-7
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil." Proverbs 3:5-7 NLT
